Which rugby teams play in the Six Nations?
Each year rugby fans look forward to the Six Nations Championship, which takes place in February and March.
The competition sees Scotland rugby play five other top European national sides: England, France, Ireland, Italy and Wales.
With at least two home matches at Murrayfield every year, spectators can enjoy high-quality rugby from the men’s national team.
Whether home or away, Ireland and France always prove interesting opponents, while Wales and Italy also provide a good match.
Perhaps the most popular Scottish fixture however is against England, also known as the Calcutta Cup.
The trophy for which the two sides compete is named after the Calcutta Football Club and is constructed from the silver rupees left in the club’s bank account, which disbanded in 1879.
This historic match has been played since then with Scotland drawing against England in the first match at Raeburn Place in Edinburgh.
Since then there have been many highs and lows for each team, with Scotland winning again in 2024!
The 2023 match was one of the most exciting in the fixture’s history, with Duhan van de Merwe scoring for Scotland to secure a 29-23 victory at Twickenham.

After you have cheered the team on, no matter what the result, there are bars at the stadium to celebrate or commiserate the result as well as in the city centre.
For many fans, a match day in Edinburgh is just as exciting as Ireland’s home matches at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, or Wales’ home fixtures at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
