Edinburgh Airport Transport To & From City Centre - Uber, Taxi & Bus

Whether you're travelling in Edinburgh by Bus, Train, Taxi, Uber or Car, here's all the information you will need...

By Bus

There is a dedicated airport to Edinburgh City Centre bus link, which runs very frequently (every ten minutes or every 15 minutes throughout the night). The bus transport service features are:
...Departure from outside Airport entrance
...Journey time of only 30 minutes
...Service to main railway stations
...24 hours availability
...Service direct to city centre
...Great value fares

By Uber

Similar to taxis, it’s a 20-25 minute journey from Edinburgh Airport to the city centre (traffic dependant of course) with Uber. To find the pick-up point, exit arrivals and follow the sign posts which will take you to the ground floor of the car park, which is outside of the terminal building.

Remember to order your uber 5-10 minutes before you get there. A typical price from the airport to The Balmoral Hotel starts at £15, to Haymarket starts at £11 and to Leith starts at £18.

By Train

Edinburgh’s main rail stations, Waverley and Haymarket, are in the city centre.  Rail passengers can get transport between the airport and the stations very easily by taxi or by bus.

By Taxi

There are separate taxi ranks for private airport taxis and for city “black cabs” outside the east (UK Arrivals) end of the terminal building. A third rank is available for advance-booked taxis on the ground floor of the multi-storey car park, directly opposite the terminal.

A journey to the city centre typically takes about 25 minutes. Many taxis are wheelchair accessible.

Taxi transport arrangements are managed by City Cabs who you can phone on 0131 656 0830 or contact via their Online Form.

If you would prefer a private hire vehicle you can book through the official Edinburgh Airport Website.

Tip: If you’re traveling with a lot of baggage and more than two people, ask the taxi dispatcher for a people carrier. It costs the same amount and gives you more room.

Car Transport

Edinburgh Airport is about eight miles west of the city centre. The entrance is reached from the A8 Glasgow Road, and is close to the M8 and M9 motorways.

The A8 airport junction is between the Gogar and Newbridge roundabouts. If you’re approaching from Edinburgh, join the A8 from the city bypass and head towards Glasgow. If you’re coming from the north or west, join the A8 at the Newbridge roundabout and head towards Edinburgh, then follow signs for the airport.

The postcode to use for satellite navigation systems is EH12 9DN.

Picking up and dropping off:

If you’re collecting passengers by car, please follow signs to the Pick Up Zone and park in the designated area (on the ground floor of the multi-storey car park). You’re then a short walk away from the UK/Ireland or International Arrivals halls.

If you’re dropping passengers off at the airport, follow signs to the Set Down Zone, which is next to the multi-storey car park and directly opposite the terminal building.

The Pick Up and Set Down lanes are clearly signposted on the airport approach road – please do not enter the green lane, which is for public transport and other authorised vehicles.
