Edinburgh Castle Free Entry & Admission 2016 - St Andrews Day Tourist Attractions

Want to know how to get free entry into Edinburgh's leading attractions including the Castle ? Well, St Andrew's Day, the annual celebration of Scotland's patron saint, is your answer. The end of November event is your once-a-year opportunity to get free admission and wander in and out of sites including Edinburgh Castle, Craigmillar Castle and a host of other places - all without paying a penny.

Blackness Castle

Over the weekend of 26th and 27th November, as well as the above you can get free admission to places including Blackness Castle, a 15th-century fortress recently featured in the TV series Outlander and Linlithgow Palace, the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots (both of which are just a short motorway drive from the city). Sites further afield which are opening their doors open for free to the public include St Andrews Castle, Jedburgh Abbey & Doune Castle.

Not all sites are open across the event's full three days so it's worth checking the official Historic Scotland Best Days Ever website carefully for opening times. The deadline for the free tickets giveaway is 25th November so claim your ticket as soon as possible (as some venues have already given away their full allocation).

There will also be free parties, live music, family entertainment as well as food and drink markets in Edinburgh on St Andrew's Day. These include the Scots Music Group who will be holding an afternoon session of traditional music and poems at the Scottish Storytelling Centre Storytelling Court on Tuesday 29th November at 2pm.

Edinburgh Castle

Going back to Edinburgh Castle, it certainly is a magnificent place - no visit to the city is properly complete without seeing inside the castle. But entry is not cheap - outside St Andrew's Day celebrations tickets cost £16.50 for an adult and £9.90 for children, aged five to fifteen. So if you fancy saving yourselves some cash, get along to the castle and other attractions on St Andrew's Day and enjoy some of the finest buildings Edinburgh has to offer - without denting your bank balance.
