Scotland is one of the best places to visit at any time of the year and Edinburgh is one of the most popular destinations in the country for good reason. Our capital is always packed with plenty to see and do and this Easter is no ‘egg-ception’ with plenty of themes, events and activities alongside the usual offerings.
24th March to 16th April
This family-oriented event is taking place in the Almond Valley Heritage Centre in Livingston. Spring is a time of new life and this has been designed as a meet and encounter session so that children can gain some first-hand experience with various baby animals. As well as meeting ducklings, lambs and other cute and cuddly creatures there will be an opportunity to win some prizes by collecting clues and looking for eggs on the springtime trail. There is also a dedicated crafting section where you can learn to make bonnets and other themed decorations. During the Easter weekend, a special plastic duck race will take place along the mill lade.
Puppet Animation Festival: James and the Giant Peach

This adaptation of the famous Roald Dahl novel will be showing at the Muirhouse Library, North Edinburgh Arts, the Craigmillar Library, the Wester Hailes Library and Newtongrange, National Mining Museum. The location varies with the date so it's worth checking ahead for the days you're interested in. The story features James who is sent to live with his horrid aunts after a rhinoceros kills his parents. He escapes this fate by flying away in a giant peach with a group of friends including a spider, a ladybug and a centipede. Together they decide to make for New York and have many adventures along the way.

The Georgian House is hosting a special Easter Egg hunt for the whole family. The event has been specially designed to feature the sights of early spring and nature-themed clues will be left by the Easter bunny. The Dobbies Garden Centre is hosting a special Easter breakfast. The activity comprises of a traditional, freshly-cooked hot meal before the kids get to spend time making a variety of Easter-themed crafts. They will also have the chance to meet the Easter Bunny and will get to take home their very only Lindt chocolate rabbit to be enjoyed later if they can resist the temptation that long! There is going to be a fancy-dress competition with prizes for the children who turn up in the best, themed outfits.
30th March to 15th April
‘Jurassic Kingdom: Where Dinosaurs Come to Life’ is continuing its UK tour just in time for Easter and it is starting in Lauriston Castle. The show is made for the outdoors and features over 30 different dinosaurs with electronically animated moving parts. This is going to be the first outdoor experience of its kind in the whole of the UK, and it is designed to be as enjoyable as it is educational. The kids will also get to play at being palaeontologists with a pretend dig where they will get to unearth dinosaur bones. As well as being an all-day event there will be plenty of vendors on sight so there will always be something to eat and drink without having to leave the excitement of the display.
