Key features

Named after the romantic Hebridean island and the smooth, mellow whisky, our Jura apartment is a fourth-floor flat in Dalry Gait conveniently situated in Edinburgh’s West End - ideally located for those arriving in Edinburgh by train (alight at Haymarket) or coming by air. The Dalry Gait development is based round a converted distillery (look for the landmark chimney!) and provides excellent modern accommodation. Excellent bus services run close to the apartment and you are with in easy walking distance of the west end of Princes Street.

There are a variety of good restaurants (including Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Thai, Italian, a Steakhouse a Bistro and Scottish) within a couple of minute’s walk of the apartment. Other local facilities include a large supermarket and plenty of smaller shops including a chemist, post office, dry cleaners and an internet café.

The apartment can be accessed by front building communal entrance, via the security entry system. Modern open-plan kitchen, dining room and living room has two leather sofas (one converts to a luxury sofa-bed) and home entertainment systems (television, video recorder and DVD player). The fully fitted and furnished kitchen has hob, oven, grill and microwave, cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils, and washer/dryer. There is also a glass door leading out to a private roof terrace with patio furniture. The apartment has Wifi internet access for guests bringing their laptops.

The large master bedroom has a double bed, built in wardrobes and an en-suite shower room. There is also a glass door leading out to a private roof terrace with patio furniture. The second bedroom is set up as a twin room with two single beds. The luxury main bathroom with fine Italian ceramics has a shower over the bath.

We have a conveniently located office across the road from the apartments, where you can collect your keys. Check in times are between 3pm - 8pm and check out time is by 10am. Late checkouts can be arranged at an additional cost, please contact us to confirm availability. We can also offer complimentary luggage storage at our office.

Cons: the apartment was not clean at our arrival, the kitchen equipment is inferior and not adequate for 5 persons. One of the bathrooms had an awful musty smell. The fittings and furnishings are low-budget. The mattrasses are very bad.
At the time of our stay, there was an extremely loud building site right beneath the apartment 7a.m. to 7p.m. mondays to saturdays. This will surely go on for the next months. The owner did not offer any reduction or adequate alternative apartment. We stayed for two weeks.
Pros: central location, private parking, large bright apartment.

Thank you for your feedback. As with all reviews, your comments were passed on to the property owner, who asked me to respond with the following:

"We are exceptionally saddened to hear that we did not live up to your expectations. We appreciate your feedback and you can be assured we strive to provide our customers with the best possible accommodation.

We were surprised with your response as we were aware of the issue you had with the construction but disappointed that you did not bring to our attention your other complaints. We did offer alternative accommodation away from the construction but unfortunately you refused the offer without viewing the beautiful property. The construction is due for completion in mid-September – and unfortunately we have no control over this. There is a large amount of construction occurring in Edinburgh at present, including the Tram way, so we feel fortunate that there is minimal disruption created here. We are very sorry that the construction impacted your holiday – I can assure you that construction was not underway when you originally booked the property.

I have personally conducted an audit of the apartment to review the equipment. Although we feel that there is an adequate amount of utensils for a party of up to six people we have increased these numbers to improve future customer experience.

We have taken on your feedback regarding the mattresses. Mattresses are replaced on a regular cycle and I have brought the replacement forward as they were due for replacement at the start of September 2014. We have been exceptionally busy this period and this may have led to additional wear. All new guest will be experiencing the comfort of new mattresses.

Again we are devastated that we did not live up to your expectations but hope that your feedback and our subsequent upgrades will ensure future guest have the wonderful stay that promote."
