Balvenie distillery, nestling beside Balvenie Castle, is one of the few remaining family-owned and run distilleries in Scotland. Balvenie lends its name to our fourth-floor (lift access), family-friendly apartment, which is conveniently situated in Edinburgh’s West End - ideally located for those arriving in Edinburgh by train (alight at Haymarket) or coming by air. The Dalry Gait development is based round a converted distillery (look for the landmark chimney!) and provides excellent modern accommodation. Excellent bus services run close to the apartment and you are with in easy walking distance of the west end of Princes Street.

There are a variety of good restaurants (including Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Thai, Italian, a Steakhouse a Bistro and Scottish) within a couple of minute’s walk of the apartment. Other local facilities include a large supermarket and plenty of smaller shops including a chemist, post office, dry cleaners and an internet café.

The apartment can be accessed by front building communal entrance, via the security entry system. Modern open-plan kitchen, dining room and living room has two leather sofas (one converts to a luxury sofa-bed) and home entertainment systems (television, video recorder and DVD player). The fully fitted and furnished kitchen has hob, oven, grill and microwave, cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils, and washer/dryer. The apartment has Wifi internet access for guests bringing their laptops.

This apartment sleeps up to six adults comfortably, and up to twelve guests if booked with the Macallan Apartment, which is located next door on the same floor.

The large master bedroom has a double bed, built in wardrobes and an en-suite shower room. The second bedroom is set up as a twin room with two single beds. The luxury main bathroom with fine Italian ceramics has a shower over the bath.

We have a conveniently located office across the road from the apartments, where you can collect your keys. Check in times are between 3pm - 8pm and check out time is by 10am. Late checkouts can be arranged at an additional cost, please contact us to confirm availability. We can also offer complimentary luggage storage at our office.

We stayed for two nights. Location and parking was convenient for shopping and sites. However, Cleanliness was extremely poor. During check out we were informed that we should have let management know when we first discovered the unclean areas.

We were in appartments 9 and 10. The location was ok, though we were next to the railway which at times could be noisy.
There were a number of things wrong in the flats.
Flat 9
1. Toilet seat was broken.
2. Sofa bed was broken so we had to get the beds out of the cupboard and one from the other flat.
3. No hair dryer as advertised.
4. Ironing board broken.
5. Hardly any mugs.
6. Shower not very powerful.
7. No mirror in twin room
8. Could hardly get to the wardrobe in twin room as the bed was in the way.
9. The first night the neighbours underneath falt 9 had very loud music till the early hours. We did knock several times and no one answered.
10. Bathroom door in double room very stiff.

Flat 10

1. Sheets and bedding in double room smelt of bleach.
2. Hole in one of the doors.
3. Dining table dirty on arrival.
4. No mugs at all.
On leaving the lift was broken so we had to carry all the luggage down four flights of stairs.

Considering we booked this accomodation in June 2011, you would imagine that most of the above would be in an acceptable working order, as these are not difficult things to remedy.

Hi and thanks for the feed back. We now use single sofa beds instead of the double sofa bed, as most guest prefer not to share. The double sofa bed is still in both apartments but has been decommissioned. It is a beautiful worked leather sofa which is super comfortable to sit on. The hairdryers, mugs and ironing board have all been replaced. There is a hole in a cupboard door of 5/10 as when the fron door opens, the corner of the mail catching basket hits this door and has made a small indent. The hole is not life threatening and is not right thorough, so is not worth replacing the door for. Cleanliness of all apartments is paramount, but unfortunately cleaners being cleaners can stupidly miss the most obvious things on occasion - as you can imagine. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do about the lift breaking down for your last day of stay. I presume it worked perfectly for the majority of your stay,and there is a 24hr help line with a same day repair guarantee in place, but that does not help if you are leaving the apartment on the day it breaks down - sorry. I hope otherwise you enjoyed your stay.
